Referee Attack: Police Arrest Elmina Sharks General Manager, Nduom Fumes

The Ghana Police Service has arrested the General Manager of Elmina Sharks, Kelvin Aboagye for his alleged role in the attack on a referee following their 1-0 defeat of Swedru All Blacks.

In a statement, the police said he attacked the referee and other supporters at the end of the game at the Nduom Sports Stadium in Elmina in the Central Region on February 16, 2025.

“He is currently in police custody assisting with the investigation while efforts are underway to get the rest of the culprits.”

In a Facebook post, the bankroller of the Sharks, Paa Kwesi Nduom, fumed at the arrest as a “shame” and “ridiculous”.

According to him, the disturbances that characterized the end of the game were caused by some persons who impersonated Sharks fans.

“There are THREE imposters who wore fake Sharks shirts to cause disruption. The police have apparently decided to leave them alone? We have videos and photos of them. How did All Blacks ‘strong men’ happen to wear Sharks shirts to the Stadium and rush on the referee?”
“As for the GFA, they shouldn’t try at all. Waiting for them. FIFA money administrators. Is this how we bring back the love for football? Clueless!”

A video of the attack which has gone viral showed the player and others attempting to attack Eso Doh Morrison, the officiating referee for Matchday 17 Access Bank Division One League while he was making his way to the tunnel.

Elmina Sharks midfielder Jay Asamoah Kola is later captured grabbing sand and throwing it at the referee while some police officers tried protecting him from his attackers.
