Referee Assault: GFA Charges Paa Kwesi Nduom for Allegedly Inciting Violence

The Ghana Football Association (GFA) has slapped the owner of Elmina Sharks, Paa Kwesi Nduom with charges of misconduct following Sunday’s game against Swedru All Stars.
The end of the game witnessed the assault of a referee.
According to the FA, Nduom allegedly trespassed the inner perimeters and the field to protest a penalty decision and incited violence against match officials after the game.
“He is alleged to have interfered with the progress of the match by entering the inner perimeter and the field of play without authorisation to protest a penalty decision. He is also alleged to have incited players, officials, and fans of Elmina Sharks against the match officials. Additionally, he is alleged to have used social media commentary to further incite fans and officials of his club against the match officials.”
These, it said, led to the violence that characterized the end of the game at the Nduom Sports Stadium in Elmina and dragged the game into disrepute.
The politician has therefore been charged with breaching Articles 34(1)(a), 34(1)(b) and 34(6)(d) of Regulations, 2019, and Section 12(4) of the GFA Disciplinary Code, 2019.
He has until Wednesday, February 19, 2025, to respond to the charges.
So far, the FA has charged Elmina Sharks midfielder Jay Asamoah Kola for assault while the Ghana Police Service has arrested the General Manager of the club, Kelvin Aboagye, also for assault.
