Public Warned Against Attacking Military Officers

The general public has been cautioned against engaging in any form of confrontation with military officers.

It comes after the Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) observed attempts by mobs to disarm military personnel in the post-election violence as the personnel were on authorised duty supporting the Ghana Police Service to restore law and order across the country.

In a statement issued on Tuesday, it cautioned that officers had the right to use lethal force in self-defence and protection of innocent civilians, and property.

“GAF wishes to caution all and sundry that military personnel on authorised duty have the right to defend themselves, innocent civilians, and property, including the use of lethal force, if necessary to preserve life.”

It therefore encouraged Ghanaians to exercise their civic rights responsibly, and cooperate with security personnel, refraining from any acts that could disrupt the peace.

It added, “GAF reiterates its commitment to safeguarding the stability and sovereignty of the nation.”
