Prez Ouattara Grateful For Otumfuo’s Assistance During Civil War
The President of Cote d’Ivoire, H.E Alassane Ouattara has expressed his profound gratitude to the Occupant of the Golden Stool, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II.
The appreciation is in recognition of his contributed assistance to the country during its turbulent period over ten years ago.
During a courtesy call on March 5, 2024, the President thanked the Monarch.
In a speech delivered on his behalf by H.E Assielou Felix Tanon, the Ambassador of Ivory Coast to Ghana, he said, “During the Civil War in Cote d’Ivoire, he helped the country immensely and I want to thank him for that”.
He then declared, “I esteem Otumfuo highly”.
President Alassane was received at the Manhyia Palace along with the Ambassador of Ivory Coast to Ghana, H.E Assielou Felix Tanon; Ashanti Regional Minister, Hon Simon Osei Mensah; Education Minister, Dr Yaw Osei Adutwum; Chieftaincy and Religious Affairs Minister, Stephen Asamoah Boateng; Mr Kudjoe Fianoo, Chairman of the Ghana League Clubs Association (GHALCO); and others.
They were led by the President of Ghana, H.E Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo.
The Civil War in Ivory Coast broke out during the era of President Laurent Gbagbo and lasted for five years. It began with a military rebellion in September 2002 and ended with a peace agreement on March 4, 2007, marking the first civil war in the country’s history.
The war broke out on September 19, 2002, when troops opposed to President Gbagbo – and under the political leadership of the Patriotic Movement of Ivory Coast, attacked three Ivorian cities, including Abidjan. Though they failed to take Abidjan, the rebels quickly established control over much of the north of the country.
