President Akufo-Addo Saves Taxpayers ¢3M; Ablakwa Applauds The President
Ranking Member on the Foreign Affairs Committee of Parliament, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa has applauded the President of the Republic of Ghana, Nana Addo Danquah Akufo-Addo for going for a commercial flight attending Expo 2020 in Dubai instead of the “usual luxurious flights”.
According to the legislator, the president’s action this time around will save the country more than three million cedis (Gh¢3,000,000).
“By commendably opting to fly First Class on Emirates and avoiding another extravagant charter, President Akufo-Addo has saved the Ghanaian taxpayers an impressive US$468,000. That is equivalent to a staggering GHS 3,306,139.20”, a statement from Ablakwa said.
He added that “For the first time in about a year, the LX-DIO is resting at the Paris-Le Bourget Airport when its most devoted passenger (President Akufo-Addo) is on official travels outside the African continent. This is why the latest conduct by President Akufo-Addo is both significant and most refreshing, as we pray it is not a fluke but a permanent change in conduct.
“Even if he refuses to use Ghana’s Presidential jet, this option presents a more frugal alternative and may help remind Ghanaians that this is a president who once promised to protect the public purse”.
The North Tongu Constituency Member of Parliament, Okudzeto Ablakwa has been up against the president over his choices of flights when travelling outside the country for months now.
According to him, the President has been opting for Boeing 737-97YER which use cost US$14,000 per hour and now costing
US$18,000.
