Prempeh I Exile Return: Asantehene Caps Centenary Celebration With a Royal Lunch
Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, the 16th Occupant of the Golden Stool drew the curtain on the three-day celebration of the return of the late King Agyemang Prempeh I from exile with a royal lunch.
This was right after the Thanksgiving Service at the St Cyprian’s Anglican Cathedral in Kumasi.
The lunch was held at the residence of the King inside the Manhyia Palace on November 24, 2024.
Guests were soothed with a classic live band performance by Mesduah Band and an electrifying performance by gospel musician Empress Gifty.
It was a moment of joy and excitement among the guests as they heartily danced to the various genre of Ghanaian and African songs.
Otumfuo used the occasion to exchange pleasantries with individual members of delegations from Seychelles and Eswatini who honoured his invitation for the celebrations.
Present at the event were Lady Julia Osei Tutu, wife of the Asantehene, Nananom, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, the President of Ghana, H.E. Wavel Ramkalawan, the President of Seychelles, H.E. Linda Ramkalawan, the First Lady of Seychelles and Russell Mmiso Dlamini, the Prime Minister of Eswatini, Nana Agyemang Konadu Rawlings, former First Lady and many others.
Asanteman set aside three days to remember and honour their 13th Monarch for his selfless impact that saved the Kingdom from total destruction and dismemberment by the British.
He was exiled to the Seychelles in 1900, four years after he surrendered himself to the British to save his people.
The late King was allowed to return in November 1924.
As part of plans to celebrate his enduring and impactful legacy, the current Asantehene through a planning committee headed by Nana Otuo Siriboe II, organised a Symposium, Durbar, Thanksgiving Service, Dinner and Luncheon.
The President of Seychelles and the Prime Minister of Eswatini were the guests of honour at the events.
