Police Service Discredits Viral Electronic Notice Demanding Payment from Traffic Offenders
The Ghana Police Service has discredited a viral electronic notice demanding payments from traffic offenders.
In a statement issued on Wednesday, it said the notification is “false, fraudulent, invalid, and not coming from the Police Service.”
The Service therefore warned against the circulation of these notifications, saying the act constitutes a serious offence punishable under the law.
It warned perpetrators would be arrested and prosecuted.
It further revealed that it was in the process of engaging Parliament for the amendment of the road traffic regulations.
The intended amendment will enable the rollout of an automated traffic law enforcement programme known as Traffitech-GH in the coming months.
“The public will be updated on further developments in this regard,” it assured, adding that the work was being drafted in collaboration with the Ministry of Interior, Ministry of Transport, National Road Safety Authority, Driver and Vehicle Licensing Authority, National Insurance Commission, and the Ministry of Finance.
