The police in Ahafo Region have successfully retrieved unlawfully possessed firearms from three suspects in their custody.
The apprehended include Johnson Mawutor, age 26, Kelvin Ofori, age 22 and Mawuli Dogba, age 20.
The fourth suspect is Adinan Ussif, who is currently at large.
Arrest
The first two suspects were arrested on February 22, 2026, around 11 pm by the Ahafo Regional Taskforce Patrol teams while on duty along Ayomsu – Goaso Road, conducting a stop and search exercise.
Mawutor and Ofori came along on an unregistered motorbike heading towards Ayomso, near Goaso.
However, on sighting police from a distance, they switched off the motorcycle’s headlights and made a U-turn in an attempt to escape.
They were pursued and arrested with a search on them leading to the retrieval of one AK 47 Assault rifle No. 68098152 loaded with 29 rounds of ammunition concealed in a bag they were carrying.
A police statement said the team led the two suspects to their residences at Abro Danho, a suburb of Goaso, where one Beretta Bruni Pistol No. MOD.92, one NM157-1941 Pistol, 30 rounds of 9mm ammunition, 50 rounds of AK 47 ammunition, four Motorola Hand Sets, one Contiso F35 Drone, one machete and one Bionette Knife were retrieved.
Probe
Preliminary investigation found that around 3 pm on February 22, suspect Johnson Mawutor asked his cousin, suspect Mawuli Dogba, age 20, to accompany his friend Mohammed – Adinan Ussif, now at large, to Techiman in the Bono East Region to collect a parcel for him.
“When they got to Techiman, Ussif entered a house and brought the parcel in a wine polyester bag and sent him to Goaso lorry station and put him in a Toyota Voxy Mini Bus to Goaso with the parcel. Upon suspect Mawul’s arrival from Techiman, suspects Mawutor and Kelvin met him and took delivery of the parcel.”
It said further investigations are ongoing to arrest suspect Mohammed – Adinan Ussif and any other person who may have contributed to the commission of the crime.
Meanwhile, the arrested suspects will be put before the court today to seek their remand to assist in the ongoing investigation.
