Plot To Oust Dampare: Police Suspend Interdiction Of Implicated Officers

The Police administration has decided to suspend the interdiction of three police officers implicated in the plot to oust the incumbent Inspector General of Police, Dr George Akufo Dampare.

This was announced in a statement by the Ghana Police Service the same day the three officers’ interdiction was announced.

The statement justified that the suspension of the interdiction was meant to prevent prejudice in the ongoing probe by the ad hoc Parliamentary Committee.

“In order not to prejudice the ongoing probe, the police administration has suspended their interdiction,” the statement signed by the Director of Public Affairs, ACP Grace Ansah-Akrofi said.

Meanwhile, it said the police administration will commence disciplinary processes into their conduct upon completion of the Parliamentary probe.

Background

The Service on Thursday morning announced the interdiction of Commissioner of Police (COP) Mr George A. Mensah, Superintendent Mr Emmanuel E. Gyebi and Superintendent Mr George Lysander Asare for their roles in a plot to oust the Inspector General of Police, Dr George Akufo Dampare.

The Service in the statement announcing the development said it will make way for disciplinary proceedings.

It came as the ad-hoc parliamentary committee is investigating a leaked audio in which the three officers and the former Northern Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Daniel Bugri Naabu were captured plotting the removal of Dr Dampare.

So far, the Parliamentary Committee headed by Hon Samuel Atta Akyea has heard Bugri Naabu, COP Mensah and Superintendent Asare.

The four were captured in the audio grieving over the principles of the IGP which they said would hamper efforts to rig the upcoming general elections.

Whereas the authenticity of the audio was confirmed by Bugri Naabu who said he recorded the conversation to expose the officers, COP Mensah and Sup Asare have affirmed the audio is doctored.

During the last public sittings where Sup Asare appeared before the Committee, he said Bugri Naabu suggested they use both physical and spiritual means to oust the IGP by visiting some mallams.
