(Pictures) UK Hosts 5th Awukudae

The fifth Awukudae festival by Asantehene Otumfuo Osei Tutu II was not held on the soil of Asanteman in Ghana but on the land of the English.

The occasion fell on July 17, 2024, while the King was away on an official trip in the United Kingdom (UK) and a mini durbar was held at his Henley residence in London in the United Kingdom (UK) accordingly.

Present were traditional authorities including Oyokohene Nana Agyekum Ababio, Asamponghene Kwabena Owusu Korkoh, Dominasehene Baffour Yaw Boateng and Bebrehene Nana Atta kyeremateng.

As typical of the globally recognized 16th Monarch of the Asante Kingdom, tradition was not downplayed.

The whole event was regarded and duly observed in accordance with customs.

Otumfuo sat in state decked in a colourful Kente outfit and received homage from his subjects, Asante expatriates on the foreign land.

Among them was Asanteman UK and Ireland, an association of Asantes living abroad.

The King is in the UK among other things to deliver a lecture at the British Museum on Friday, July 19, 2024. He is also expected to host the next Akwasidae Festival there.

He left the country on Saturday, July 13, 2024.
