The pitch at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium in Kumasi in the Ashanti Region has regained its lushness after undergoing days of rehabilitation in the quest to make it ready to host the country’s highly anticipated opener in the Africa Cup of Nations (2025 AFCON) qualifiers.
The Ashanti Regional chapter of the National Sports Authority (NSA) which came under backlash for giving the pitch out for concerts and other events had earlier assured that the pitch would be ready before the game.
In a post in July, it said a maintenance team had been constituted to rehabilitate the pitch.
“We have a robust plan, a crack field, and a maintenance team to recover the pitch and restore the facility in general in record time for the whole of August. Stakeholders can be rest assured.”
Last week, a video of a truck watering the deteriorated surface of the pitch went viral.
In a tweet on August 27, the NSA-Ashanti Region updated the public about the current state of the pitch with some gratifying pictures.
Per the pictures, the pitch has massively improved in form as it has regained its greenness and looks ready for the game between the Black Stars and the Palancas Negras of Angola on September 5.
