Perpetual Light: Enterprising Andrew Appau Grabs A Win For Kotoko To Keep Hopes Alive

On match days, supporters of various teams, ultimately bank their hopes in their strikers to grab a win for them in what seems to be their sole responsibility.

It rarely happens to see defenders coming off their lines to step forward majestically to grab the winner for their teams.

A defender who has been renowned in this phenomenon and does it regularly is Sergio Ramos. On the local scene, Amos Frimpong was seen doing that during his while with Kotoko.

Yesterday, in a blockbuster league match between International Allies and Asante Kotoko, youngster Andrew Kwadwo Appau braved the odds to grab the winner for the Porcupines in scintillating fashion.

Appau punctuated his second appearance for Asante Kotoko with a rare display of stunning football. The young central defender was agile, composed, confident and robust to provide a shield at the back of arguably Ghana’s most successful team.

His inclusion in the starting lineup was somewhat incomprehensible, but it paid off when he grabbed the three points for Asante Kotoko.

From Tano Bofoakwa, a Division One, to under-study the likes of Ismail Abdul-ganiu, Habib Mohammed, Wahab Adams and Yussif Mubarik at Kotoko, nobody thought such a young talent will have his breakthrough at this epic moment of the league when experience count most.

Today, he is a hero heading all the headlines. It is surely an aesthetic moment in his life, especially a team even well experienced players have failed to glitter.

The newly-signed Asante Kotoko defender Andrews Appau handed the Kumasi-based club a 3-2 lead with a beautiful header from a free-kick effected by Brazilian midfielder Fabio Gama on the 71st minute of the game which subsequently gave Kotoko all the three maximum points.

Kotoko is now occupying at the second position of the league with only goals separating them from their arch rivals Hearts of Oak.
