Participate In The Ongoing Census Exercise- OTUMFUO
Asantehene Otumfuo Osei Tutu II has encouraged participation in the ongoing enumeration exercise by all Ghanaians.
Failure to participate in the exercise he revealed is against the law therefore all must ensure to take part by availing oneself to the census officers.
“It will help in Ghana’s development because living in a country without knowing its population will make it difficult for making allocations, even schools must be estimated, water, buildings in the nation so this exercise, all must see to it that you’re counted, it’s your responsibility…”
“If you don’t see to it that you’re counted, there are consequences you can face. But that is not what the officers are looking for, they just want the progress of the exercise so as the exercise is ongoing, everybody must ensure to get his detail taken so that we know the number of people in the country.”
“It helps government to make plans, parliamentarians also use it in planning, tax officers also use it in their plans…”he stated.
Otumfuo revealed that, keeping the data of citizens is an important exercise in terms of development where planning and infrastructural works are based on.
Good leadership management depends on getting the right data for rightful estimations to be carried.
“…currently the number of people has increased same with filth, so if we do not know the population, then how can we plan and manage waste products, everybody must try and get counted…”
This came up when the Ashanti Regional Statistical Director, Dr. Kwabena Abeka Ansah visited the King at Manhyia Palace as he (Otumfuo) took turns to be enumerated as part of the ongoing census exercise.
