Parliament Passes Security and Intelligence Agencies Bill, 2025

Parliament has passed the Security and Intelligence Agencies Bill, 2025, to establish the Office of the National Security Coordinator.

Explaining the purpose of the Bill on the floor of the House on Thursday, the Minister for Interior, Hon. Mubarak Mohammed Muntaka, noted that the Bill seeks to provide for matters relating to the National Security Council.

It will establish the Regional Security Council and the District Security Councils, as well as specify some State agencies responsible for coordinating and implementing government policies on the security of the State.

It will also deal with attendant issues relating to the internal and external security of Ghana.

The Chairperson of the Select Committee on Security and Intelligence, Hon Zanetor Agyeman Rawlings, noted that the policy direction of the Government is to provide for a security architecture where the National Security Coordinator coordinates the activities of the security and intelligence agencies in the Country.
