Parliament Passes Bill to Establish University of Engineering and Agricultural Sciences

Parliament has passed a bill to establish the University of Engineering and Agricultural Sciences in the Savannah region.

Moving the motion earlier this week, the Education Minister, Haruna Iddrisu, said the University of Engineering and Agricultural Sciences Bill 2025 will also provide for the governance arrangements and management of the University.

Presenting a report by the Committee on Education, the Chairman, Peter Kwasi Nortsu-Kotoe, explained that the Bill will spell out the governance structure, finance, administration, and regulation of the activities and arrangements of the University in a structured, harmonious, and coordinated manner.

The Minority Leader, Alexander Kwamena Afenyo-Markin, also threw its support for the initiative.

He, however, called for deeper reflection and broader thinking regarding the University and urged the Education Minister not to limit the policy on educating students only, but to address technical and vocational education, including apprenticeships.
