Over 3,000 Scholarship Applicants Sit For Merit-based Exam

Three thousand eight hundred and ten Ghanaians have undergone a high-level competitive examination for prospective candidates under the Hungarian Stipendium, a Government of Hungary scholarship scheme.

The examination covered various levels of study, including undergraduate, Master’s, and PhD programmes.

In a statement, the  Director-General of the Ghana Scholarship Authority, Alex Kwaku Asafo-Agyei, said the exercise is aimed at selecting only qualified applicants on merit, in line with President John Dramani Mahama’s commitment to transparency, fairness, and equal opportunity.

He said it is in line with the President’s directive to end the era where scholarships were reserved for cronies, the wealthy, and the politically connected.

“As Director-General, I supervised the exercise and assured candidates of President Mahama’s strong resolve to ensure that scholarship awards are based purely on competence and performance.”

The exam was conducted in collaboration with the West African Examinations Council (WAEC) and the Civil Service Training Centre.

He said WAEC will serve as the independent marking agency to guarantee credibility and integrity in the process.

He added, “This is the MAHAMA STANDARD: fairness, transparency, and opportunities for every deserving Ghanaian. Under His Excellency’s #ResettingGhana leadership, the scholarship system is being reset to reward merit, not influence.”
