Otumfuo Orders Immediate Enstoolment of Patomhene After 20-Year Vacancy

The King of the Asante Kingdom, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, has issued a decree for the immediate enstoolment of a Patomhene.

The stool has been vacant for the past 20 years.

The decree came after the Kumasi Traditional Council heard a royal was leading a litigation over the ownership of Asarekrom against Pakyi No1hene, Nana Owusu Poku.

The said royal has invoked the Great Oath against the chief to affirm Patomhene’s claim over Asarekrom.

The oath was countered by the chief of Pakyi Number One who also says the town has also been part of his jurisdiction.

The said royal intimated that all efforts to beseech the Asantehene in accordance with tradition proved futile and thereby his decision to invoke the oath.

“I have tried since 2012 to beseech the Asantehene about the issue to no avail.”

Rebuke
Otumfuo rebuked the royal for taking matters into his hands without recourse to tradition.

“In the absence of a traditional leader, the royal had to report to me through the laid down procedures.”

The Asantehene afterwards warned Nananom against shoving cases that urgently need attention.

His Majesty then ordered for a candidate to be nominated for enstoolment and oath of allegiance taken by Monday, July 21, 2025.

“He must be ready to take the oath of allegiance on Monday. The chief is supposed to fight for the properties of his forefathers, not a royal.”

In the meantime, the Asantehene cautioned the parties against stoking violence as he banned Pakyihene from stepping foot in the town under contention until the issue is amicably resolved.
