Opposition is Behind Agyapadie Document Fabrication- Akufo-Addo

President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has stated that the notorious book characterized as the “Agyapadie” circulating the country with a supposed grand scheme by the Akyem tribe to annex the country and key sectors was fabricated by the hands of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC).

According to him, the emergence of such fabricated lies against him isn’t the first as it is witnessed in election years.

Speaking at the Ghana Report Summit themed “Dealing with Misinformation and Disinformation – Election 2024”, the President recalled the various misinformation and disinformation he had been a victim of since his presidential aspirations began.

“In the run-up to the 2008, 2012 and 2016 Presidential elections, I was the Target of numerous false and malicious stories aimed at attacking my credibility and integrity. In 2008, baseless allegations of drug trafficking along with numerous rumours about my health intended to cast doubt on my ability to serve as President. President Kufuor was also accused in 2008 of having sold all of Ghana’s reserves.

“Again, the 2012 elections saw false reports of my alleged arrest in London for drug possession and a fabricated hoax designed to stir ethnic tensions. In 2016, it was alleged by sympathisers of the opposition that I had killed my late wife. Today, with a few months to the December 2024 Elections, they are at it again.”

The recent one which comes ahead of the 2024 Elections is the Agyapadie document which he discredited at the Summit.

“This time, a fabricated document entitled Agyapadie is being spread around by the opposition as evidence of a grand scheme by my party to annex the state and the assets of the state. These experiences underscore the importance of discerning truth from falsehood and the need for all of us to remain vigilant against the dangers of misinformation and disinformation.”

The President isn’t the first to discredit the document. Over the weekend, the Paramount Chief of the Akyem Abuakwa Traditional Area, Osagyefo Amoatia Ofori Panin said the document was propounded in the era of J.B. Danquah and revised and recirculated in 2016 and 2019.

Also, Gabby Otchere Darko, a leading member of the NPP and an Akyem reacted in a social media post by saying, “If you believe a family will document its alleged evil plans against the very village they proudly live in, document it all in revised copies of a book and impose a portrait of the head of family boldly on its front cover, then please do have your head properly examined. It may help you greatly.”
