Opanyin Yaw Baah Withdraws From NPP Kumawu Primary
Opanyin Yaw Baah, a former Kumawu representative in Parliament has bowed out of the New Patriotic Party’s Parliamentary primaries race for the Kumawu constituency.
He communicated this in a letter to the governing NPP’s Chairman of the Kumawu By-election primary.
He was among eight persons who picked nomination forms last week to contest in the primary of the governing NPP.
In his letter, Opanyin Yaw Baah said his decision was after the realisation of his “political status and pedigree within the large family”.
Instead of being in Parliament, he wants to focus on helping the Party win a third term in government.
“I write formally in reference to the above subject. Having considered my political status and pedigree within the large family, have come to the conclusion that the last atom of my “political breath” should be at the disposal of the National Front, rather than at the periphery of Kumawu. I see myself as a great player in our scheme of things as far as “Breaking the 8″ mantra is concerned. I believe the interest of my beloved Kumawu will be better served, if I stay outside and help unify our party in the constituency.”
He has, however, endorsed Obaapa Ama Serwaa one of the seven now racing to contest on the ticket of the NPP in the by-election which will be held on May 23.
By-Election Nomination
The Electoral Commission has directed interested candidates to download nomination forms from the Commission’s website from April 14 to May 5 and submit them from May 2 to May 5 at the Sekyere Kumawu District Office of the EC.
As part of the conditions, prospective candidates must have their nomination forms witnessed by the signature or mark of two registered voters as proposer and seconder.
The forms must also be assented to by eighteen other registered voters in the constituency.
The EC added, “A candidate shall at the time of submitting his/her completed nomination forms, provide the returning officer with two copies of a recent postcard (burst-sized) photograph against a red background, showing his/her full face and ears”
Also, the filing fee for each candidate is GHC10,000.
