Offinsohemaa Offically Gazetted
The Offinso Traditional Area was filled with celebration and renewed hope as the people, alongside Nananom, witnessed the formal recognition of Nana Adwoa Afranewaa III as their Queen Mother.
Her status has now been officially gazetted, securing her place among the esteemed Queen Mothers in Ghana.
The announcement came during a significant gathering at the Offinso Palace, where the Paramount Chief, Nana Dwamena Akenteng III, confirmed the long-awaited news.
Despite lingering tensions surrounding the transition, Nana Dwamena Akenteng reminded the public that no one has the power to overturn the decisions of His Majesty Otumfuo Osei Tutu II.
Offinsohene also extended Easter greetings to Christians and expressed deep appreciation to the Government for its confidence in the leadership and development of the Offinso Traditional Area.
In her address, the newly enskinned Queen Mother, Nana Adwoa Afranewaa III, expressed heartfelt gratitude.
She acknowledged the difficult path that led to her recognition but promised to be a unifier and a beacon of peace within the royal family.
Background
The official recognition of Nana Adwoa Afranewaa III follows the destoolment of Nana Ama Serwaa Nyarko, who had served as Queen Mother of Offinso for over three decades.
Her reign was brought to an end on January 11, 2024, after she was summoned to appear before the Asanteman Council and failed to do so.
The destoolment was based on what was described as repeated acts of insubordination.
Nana Ama Serwaa Nyarko became the first traditional authority to be removed by the Asantehene in 2024—a decision that paved the way for a new chapter in Offinso’s royal history with the rise of Nana Adwoa Afranewaa III.
