#OccupyBOGProtest: Minority Reaches Agreement with Police
The Minority in parliament has disclosed that it successfully negotiated a route agreement with the Ghana Police Service for the #OccupyBOGProtest set for Tuesday, October 3, 2023.
According to a letter from the Police addressed to organisers of the protest, it has been agreed that the protesters will converge at the Obra Spot, go through Adabraka – Ridge Roundabout – National Theatre Traffic Light – High Court Complex Traffic Light – Atta Mills Highway – U-Turn to Independence Square.
Additionally, they have agreed that the demonstrators will conduct themselves in a peaceful manner before, during and after.
The police on their part have agreed to provide security for the event.
“The Command assures you of our continuous cooperation and commitment to maintain law and order for the intended public protest within the mandate of the Ghana Police Service,” the police said.
After postponing the protests twice as a result of stiff opposition from the Ghana Police Service, the Minority in Parliament, Civil Society Organizations, Progressive Forces, and others will finally have their way to protest on October 3, 2023.
The groups plan to register their displeasure at the Central Bank’s alleged illegal printing of about GH¢ 80 billion between 2021 and 2022 which it says contributed to an inflation rate of 54.1% in December 2022.
They are calling for the resignation of the Governor, Dr Ernest Addison and his two deputies.
