Obofour Informs Asantehene and Asantehemaa of His Mother’s Funeral

Rev Francis Agyei Antwi, popularly known as Rev Obofour has formally informed the Occupant of the Golden Stool, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, and the Queen, Nana Konadu Yiadom III of the burial and funeral arrangements for his late mother.

The Manhyia Palace gave him an audience on May 29, 2025.

Accompanied by a delegation made up of Nana Agyei Boadi, Kumasi Asafohene Kyidom and Mr Appiah Osei, his father, he humbly relayed details of the funeral to their Majesties

“As a courtier, I couldn’t have gone ahead with my mother’s funeral without coming first to inform my lord,” he first told the King during an engagement at his Palace.

Otumfuo in his speech acknowledged him, saying, “He is no stranger to this Palace. I have known him since he was a child.”

At the Queen’s Palace, sympathies were relayed to the mourning family.

In an interview with Opemsuo Radio’s George Addo, the preacher said, “My biological mother has passed away. Since my childhood, I have been living at Kyeretwie and I served the Asantehene and so had to come and inform my lord. I had earlier informed him about the death and today we were given an audience to communicate further arrangements for the burial. After informing my lord, I had to come to Nana Hemaa as well.”

According to him, the embrace the Palace had given him reassured him of the unflinching support from Asanteman in these trying times.

“The reception I got from Otumfuo has assured me that I have a formidable rock on which I can lean. It’s a prophecy that my lord saw me and remembered me. Though I’m mourning, it’s a great joy to me.”

Obofuor was therefore grateful to the King and Queen.

The final funeral rites will take place on May 31, 2025.
