O.I.T: Defending Champions Opemsuo Radio Bows To Stanbic Bank
Defending Champions, Opemsuo Radio, failed to defend their title in the Second Otumfuo Invitational Tournament played at Lebanon AstroTurf on Saturday, May 21, 2022.
Opemsuo Radio opened its title defense against Dr. Caesar in a 1-0 victory before holding Oyerepa Radio to a 0:0 drawn game to finish second in the group stage to qualify for the next Semifinals of the competition.
Otumfuo’s lads ousted their counterparts from Sikka FM in the Semifinals to reach the finals on a record two consecutive occasions.
Banking giant, Stanbic Bank pulled off a vintage performance from the group stage to finish second behind Sikka FM before kicking Oyerepa Radio in the Semifinals to reach the finals of the competition.
The Debutants who were hungrier to win the title overpowered Opemsuo Radio in the finals to achieve their target, thanks to a first-half goal.
Stanbic Bank remained irrepressible, resilient, and indefatigable throughout the entire duration of the finals despite Opemsuo Radio’s sizzling performance in the second half.
The Eight-team tournament ended in a vivacious manner with former Ghana Premier League legends; Bernard Don Bortey, Francis Akwafo, and Kofi Abagna gracing the occasion.
Speaking to the Deputy Protocol Officer to Otumfuo Osei Tutu II who is also the Chief Executive Officer of Opemsuo Radio, Mr. Emmanuel Osei Sarfo, he thanked all the institutions that participated and congratulated Stanbic Bank for emerging as winners.
“I would like to thank all the teams that participated in this year’s tournament at the Lebanon AstroTurf. I must say that it has been a fabulous day with great exhibition of football talents.”
“Congratulations to Stanbic Bank for winning it from us (Opemsuo Radio). They deserve to win, so it is not surprising they won.”
“Opemsuo Radio will go back to the tactical board to correct all mistakes identified in this tournament so that we can win it again,” He concluded.
