NPP Reorganizing After Electoral Defeat — Justin Frimpong Kodua

The General Secretary of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Justin Frimpong Kodua, says the party has put measures in place to reorganize and reposition itself following its recent electoral loss.

Speaking in an interview with Kofi Boakye on Nkwantannanso on Opemsuo Radio, Mr. Kodua emphasized that electoral defeat should not signal the end of a political party’s prospects.

“In politics, when you contest an election and do not achieve the results you were expecting, you should not be disappointed or conclude that everything has come to an end. We understand that not every election you contest will result in victory,” he stated.

Reflecting on the party’s history, he cited the NPP’s landmark victory in 2016, noting that its margin of over one million votes was unprecedented in Ghana’s political history.

“In 2016, when the NPP won, the over one million votes secured were unprecedented. That is how politics works. If today we have lost, the focus should be on how we can rise again,” he said.

According to him, the party is prioritizing a thorough assessment of the factors that led to its defeat, with the aim of correcting identified shortcomings and restoring public confidence.

“The focus should be on letting the people understand the reasons for the loss and providing solutions to the issues identified. That way, when we regain power, we can manage it effectively and make Ghana and our party proud,” he added.

Mr. Kodua said the party constituted a committee chaired by Mike Oquaye to engage members and the public to determine the reasons for the defeat.

He highlighted that electing the flagbearer early was a strategic move to allow sufficient time for nationwide engagement and proper marketing.

“For the first time, we decided to elect our flagbearer early so that we would have sufficient time to market him properly and engage extensively with Ghanaians,” he noted.

On the next phase, Mr. Kodua confirmed that the party’s focus now is on its internal elections to elect party executives.

He added that the party’s focus remains on unity, restructuring, and presenting solutions to Ghanaians, with the aim of regaining power and managing it effectively when given the mandate.
