Led by the Chief of Staff of the President, Akosua Frema Opare, the entourage introduced Ernest Yaw Anim to the King at the Manhyia Palace on Thursday, May 18, 2023.
He was elected by party delegates over Ama Serwa, Dr Appiah Kubi, Dr Aboagye Da Costa and Osei Bempah.
His election came after the death of Hon Philip Basoah on March 27 at the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital.
The Electoral Commission of Ghana has slated a by-election on April 23 to fill the vacancy in Parliament following a notice from the Speaker of Parliament.

He will be competing with two independent candidates both by the name Kwaku Duah and the candidate of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), Akwasi Amankwaa.
Five days to the by-election, some leading members of the NPP visited the Manhyia Palace to introduce their candidate to the King and seek his blessings.
Among the delegation were the General Secretary of the NPP, Justin Kodua Frimpong and the Ashanti Regional Chairman of the NPP, Bernard Antwi Boasiako.
