NPP is Full of Lawlessness – Campaign Team

A member of the communication team for Alan Kyerematen’s campaign, Mr. Emmanuel Osei Gyamfi, has leveled accusations of lawlessness within the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in an interview on Opemsuo Radio’s Nkwantannanso with Kofi Boakye on September 26.

He cited an incident from December 2021 when the NPP held a national conference at the Baba Yara Stadium in Kumasi.

According to Gyamfi, the NPP’s leadership issued a statement prohibiting the placement of campaign billboards, flyers, posters, or shirts at the stadium during the conference.

“President Akufo-Addo arrived at the event without his vice-president, Dr. Bawumia. In less than an hour, a group of lawless legislators and individuals arrived together wearing Bawumia campaign T-shirts seemingly in violation of the directive.”

Gyamfi expressed his disappointment, stating that he had expected President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo to address the situation but nothing was done.

He recounted another incident during a campaign in Kumawu for the by-election where people were cheering Alan and he was eventually asked to address the audience. A member of parliament requested that the microphone be taken from him.

Despite these events, Gyamfi observed that the President together with party executives remained passive, without taking action.

He further asserted that there is a leadership vacuum within the NPP.  For instance, when it comes to regional chairmen, many of whom are perceived to be aligned with Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia’s campaign team rather than maintaining neutrality as expected during campaigns.

“Leadership is missing in NPP. For instance, a regional chairman during campaign is suppose to be neutral and lead them to various constituencies but it is not so. Most of them are now part of Bawumia’s campiagn team.”

On Monday, Allan Kyerematen declared his departure from the NPP after being a member for 31 years.

He revealed his intention to run as an independent candidate in the upcoming 2024 Presidential election.

Allan cited concerns about the intimidation of his supporters, controversial decisions by the NPP leadership, and allegations of some leaders hijacking the party as reasons for his decision.
