NPP Implements Reforms to Ensure Fair Internal Elections — Justin Frimpong Kodua

The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has introduced new measures to improve internal election processes and prevent disputes, the party’s General Secretary, Justin Frimpong Kodua, has revealed.

Speaking in an interview with Kofi Boakye on Nkwantannanso on Opemsuo Radio, Mr. Kodua said that since assuming office as General Secretary, he has prioritized ensuring fairness in candidate selection and transparency in voting.

“Previously, some people tried to prevent others from contesting MPs, wanting them to go unopposed. We intervened and made it clear that everyone should have a fair chance to contest, if you win, you win,” he said.

He explained that much of the previous confusion in party elections stemmed from issues with polling station executive albums, where some members found their names removed on election day, preventing them from voting.

To address this, the party introduced an album verification process similar to that of the Electoral Commission, allowing members to check and confirm their names in advance.

“These reforms are part of the reason the party is functioning more smoothly today,” he noted.

During the recent presidential primaries, Mr. Kodua said the NPP worked closely with the election committee to ensure aspirants could send representatives to all 276 constituencies. The representatives were able to inspect voting albums, correct any errors, and guarantee transparency throughout the process.

“This approach eliminated disputes and ensured the elections were conducted fairly,” he said.

The General Secretary emphasized the need for the party to adhere to its founding principles, including values, discipline, and strong organizational practices established by its early elites, youth, traders, and businesspeople.

“Our current arrangements and steps are designed to prevent confusion and chaos. The work is challenging, but I am confident that we will ultimately reach the promised land,” he added.
