Noguchi Detects 34 Persons With the Omicron Variant
The Noguchi Memorial Institute has detected Ghana’s first imported Omicron Variant in 34 arriving travelers.
The newly discovered variant was detected in 28% samples of returning 120 travelers’ samples collected from November 21 to 25 sequenced, the institute tweeted.
According to Noguchi, the potential spread of the variant in the local population is being closely monitored.
The institute further encouraged the general populace to adhere to the COVID-19 protocols.
The Omicron Variant was first detected in South Africa, after which travel restrictions were placed on the country and its environs by some countries.
