Nkoranza Cell Breakaway: 1 Murder Suspect Rearrested

The Ghana Police Service has announced that it has recaptured one suspect out of the six who broke away from the Nkoranza Divisional and District Police Headquarters during an invasion.

On May 17, the two headquarters were attacked by irate youth who were protesting over the “mysterious death” of Albert Donkor, an alleged robbery suspect.

During the attack, the police recount that six suspects managed to escape.

One, however, who is said to be a murder suspect has been nabbed following an intelligence-led operation.

Meanwhile, five of the persons who staged the attacks on the headquarters have been arrested.

“The police are pursuing the other suspects involved in this dastardly attack on police facilities to bring them to book and we assure the public that we will get them.”

The mayhem in Nkoranza comes in the wake of the death of Albert Donkor, who according to residents of Nkoranza is a businessman but according to the police, is a robbery suspect.

“In the Bono East Region, police gathered intelligence that a suspect, Albert Donkor, and the gang of five suspected armed robbers were involved in several robbery attacks in the region.

“Based on this intelligence, an operation was conducted during which suspect Albert Donkor was shot. He was rushed to the Holy Family Hospital for medical attention but was pronounced dead on arrival”, the police side of the story reads.

On Tuesday, May 17, some youth of the Nkoranza community went on a rampage over the death of Albert leading to the death of one more person, with seven others sustaining different degrees of injuries following a clash with the police in the area.

Currently, the police says calm has returned to the community.
