NIA Workers Suspend Strike
Offices and registration centres of the National Identification Authority (NIA) nationwide are open to the public today, October 11, 2024, following the suspension of the strike action by the NIA Division of the Public Services Workers Union of the Trades Union Congress (TUC).
The group resumed their industrial action earlier this week to demand an implementation of its Scheme of Service (SoS).
The leadership resolved to call off the strike after a Committee was charged with the responsibility of implementing the Scheme of Service (SoS) document when embossed and received from the Public Services Commission (PSC).
“Following the declaration of the strike action by the Union in the evening of 6th October 2024, which took effect on Monday, 7th October 2024, the Governing Board and Management of NIA met with the mother Union of the PSWU and the NIA Division of the PSWU to address the basis of the strike action and related matters.
“The Governing Board admonished the Union to call off the illegal strike. A Joint Management-Union Committee was charged with the implementation of the Scheme of Service (SoS) document when embossed and received from the Public Services Commission (PSC),” it relayed in a press statement.
This measure, the group indicated, informed their decision to call the strike off.
