NIA to Resume Ghana Card Printing to Clear Backlog

The National Identification Authority (NIA) is set to resume the mass printing of National Identification cards, known as Ghana cards.

It comes after the Authority received 700,000 blank cards following a deal between the Acting Executive Secretary and its technical partners.

The NIA in a statement said these cards would be used to print the backlog- which encompasses first-time, replacements and updates of personal information applications- that has been pending since 2023.

Further to this, a technical team has been constituted to supervise the swift printing and distribution of the cards at a yet-to-be-disclosed date.

“In line with the government’s objective of ensuring that Ghanaians aged 15 years and above have Ghana cards for the purposes of identification and verification, the Ag Executive Secretary has constituted a technical team to expedite the printing of the backlog and to oversee the distribution to various district offices for onward issuance.”

Meanwhile, the NIA said it was devising avenues to distribute over 600,000 printed uncollected cards at the various regional and district offices.

These cards have been with the offices since 2018, it announced.
