New GHS Director-General Sets His Priorities
The newly appointed Director-General of the Ghana Health Service, Prof. Samuel Kaba Akoriyea, has outlined to the staff of the Service, his priorities as he takes over from Dr Patrick Kuma Aboagye.
According to him, his utmost objective is to implement all manifesto policies of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) for which they were voted into power in December.
“I come here as an appointee of HE the President of our country. What we are going to do from now is enshrined in our manifesto. All that has to do with health and especially what Ghana Health Service is tasked to do. That will be our vision and that is what we are here to do,” he told the staff.
Additionally, he highlighted staff welfare as key. He is bent on putting in place sound conditions of service to enhance the welfare of staff.
“One of the things we have to look at is staff welfare. It’s key and most of you know how I used to talk about it. That passion is not gone. It has actually increased.”
He also served notice about his interest in cordial relations among staff. According to him, his appointment would not be a platform for opportunists to advance their vendetta against others.
“Law and order from today. I want us to be very sure. Because I already know what is happening, what has happened and when you take a position, what people do. If you don’t take time, you spend time fighting other people’s fights. That is gone.
“If you are coming to my office, know that you are coming for a professional job and not to backbite because you will be surprised I will call the person to come so you tell him to his face.”
Meanwhile, Prof Akoriyea expressed his gratitude for the immediate past D-G for supervising a smooth transition in leadership at the service.
