New Finance Minister Seeks Funds for KATH Maternity, Airport, Kejetia Phase 2
The Minister for Finance, Hon Mohammed Amin Adam is on a mission to find the needed funds to complete three key projects in the Ashanti Region with the necessary “urgency and speed”.
The projects include the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH) Maternity and Children’s Block, the Kumasi International Airport and the Kejetia Market Phase II which have stalled since 2023.
According to the Karaga Member of Parliament, President Akufo-Addo is committed to completing the projects as soon as possible and has charged the Ministry to make that vision realised.
“His Excellency the President has asked me to bring assurances to you about his commitment to complete key projects his government has embarked on: The Komfo Anokye hospital, Kumasi International Airport and Kejetia Market.
“He has given us the directive to bring attention to them and therefore we are making all the efforts to find the money to complete these projects. We have faced some difficulties as a result of which we had to go the IMF as a result of which we had to declare suspension and that has led to the stalling of so many projects including these three key projects,” he said during a courtesy call on February 20, 2024.
Meanwhile, he disclosed the President is set to make a “huge” announcement on these three projects soon.
“We are going to bring urgency and speed to these projects so that we can complete it. I know that very soon His Excellency the President will make a huge pronouncement on these projects and we at the Ministry of Finance will implement the directives.”
The minister who takes over from Ken Ofori Atta stressed on economic contribution the Ashanti Region makes towards the national development and emphasized the need to reciprocate in developmental projects.
Hon Amin was accompanied to the Palace by Deputy Finance Minister John Ampontuah Kumah, Chief Director Eva Eselba Mends, Director of Economic Strategy and Research Alhassan Iddrisu, Director of Policy Coordination Monitoring and Evaluation Division Augustus Kwesi Adu and others.
