New Dates for Council of State Election in Ashanti and North East Regions Released

The Electoral Commission (EC) of Ghana has set a new date to conduct the Council of State election in the Ashanti and North East regions for the second time.

The two regions remain the only ones without representatives on the Council.

In a statement on February 13, 2025, the EC said the election will be rerun on Monday, February 17, 2025.

It comes after the sorting process of the ballot papers was marred by violence leading to the destruction of some ballot papers in the Ashanti Region earlier this week.

In the North East Region however, there was a tie in the election with the top two candidates securing six votes each.

“The Commission has written to the Ghana Police Service and copied the National Election Security Taskforce to heighten security at the venues of the elections to prevent any disruptions.”
