Never Forget This Honour Accorded You By Your Kingmakers; Asantehene to Wawasehene

The Occupant of the Golden Stool, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II has charged Nana Yaw Owusu Panin II, the chief of Wawase to etch in his memory, the honour accorded him by his kingmakers.

After a resolution by the Asantehene to the protracted litigation over the true clan that owns the stool in September 2024, the stool elders opted for Nana Yaw Mensah Karikari, to occupy the stool.

On January 23, 2025, when he appeared before the Kumasi Traditional Council to take the oath of allegiance, the Asantehene underscored the significance of the position given him and urged him to be forever grateful to his kingmakers.

“Never forget this honour accorded you by your kingmakers,” His Majesty advised.

Otumfuo further charged him to lead in humility.

Meanwhile, the King directed the authorities to assist the young traditional ruler in his administration and traditional practices.

Among the counsel offered by the various Divisions was for him to honour the Great Oath, strive for development, and render service to the Golden Stool.

Taking his oath, he vowed to follow in the footsteps of his predecessors and be at the beck and call of the Asantehene.

“I will continue the good works of my predecessors. For this honour Otumfuo has bestowed on me, I will not let you down. I will be at your service at all times. If I go against this, I violate the great oath.”

Traditionally, the Wawasehene oversees the production of the ornamental shield of the Asantehene.
