Never Cease to Mention Me In Your Prayers- Asantehene to New Methodist Presiding Bishop

The King of the Asante Kingdom, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, has encouraged Most Reverend Professor Johnson Kwabena Asamoah-Gyadu, the newly elected Presiding Bishop of the Methodist Church Ghana, to keep him in his prayers.

At the first Awukudae Festival of the year on January 14, 2026, Otumfuo stressed the principal role of God in his appointment to the throne, adding that his maker has the sole power to sustain him.

His Majesty thus urged the leader to make mention of him in every prayer he makes.

Introduction
Otmfuo made these remarks when the Methodist Church Ghana introduced Most Reverend Professor Asamoah-Gyadu as the new Presiding Bishop.

He replaced Most Rev Dr Paul Kwabena Boafo, who completed his six-year tenure in September 2024.

The Church emphasised the relevance of the introduction as a continuation of a longstanding tradition and relationship forged with the Occupants of the Golden Stool, dating back to the era of Asantehene Kwaku Duah.

“We need the blessings of Otumfuo for a successful and smooth tenure for the new leader.”

For his part, Most Reverend Professor Asamoah-Gyadu committed to honouring Asanteman and Ghana with his service.

Guidance
Otumfuo counselled the leader to take advantage of the presence of his predecessor to shape his leadership.

“You have your predecessors available to guide you and enhance your  work.”

The Asantehene also reminded him of the nature of the task he has been entrusted, encouraging him to equip himself with love, patience and unity.

“This is the work of God, and you need love, unity and patience to be successful.”
