Nananom Back Regional Minister’s Vehicular Route Creation at Adum PZ

The Kumasi Traditional Council (KTC) has lent its support to Ashanti Regional Minister, Dr Frank Amoakohene, for the creation of a vehicular route at Adum PZ.
The Minister, after briefing Nananom at the Manhyia Palace on Monday, led them around the scene that caught fire on March 21.
Among the chiefs were Akyeamfuo Asafo Boakye Agyemang Bonsu, Asafohene; Baffour Kwame Kusi, Ankobeahene; Baffour Osei Kwame, Otumfuo Kyeame Kantankrakyi; Baffour Agyei Kesse IV, Adumhene; and Nana Apau Wiafe Ababio Sawoansa, Hemanghene.
After inspecting the scene and its surroundings, the traditional authorities unanimously, concluded that evacuating some of the traders to make way for a path would not only be prudent but a proactive step.
Speaking on their behalf, Otumfuo Kyeame Baffour Kantankrankyi, urged the Minister to do whatever was needed to restore sanity, security and safety within the Central Business District.
“Do whatever you have to do for the betterment of the city. This is not about politics, it’s about the welfare of Ghanaians.”
He suggested that a deadline be given to those who would be affected by the project.
“Give them some time, maybe a month, for them to pack out to make way for the path creation.”
He also raised concerns about the use of pavements by shop owners and urged the Minister to put in place immediate steps to clear all paths for pedestrians.
“Why are shop owners arranging their goods on pavements? Do something about it immediately.”
Fire
The devastating fire which started at 4 am on the top floor of a four-storey commercial building spread to other blocks and floors consuming goods worth millions of cedis.
The efforts of firefighters in quenching the flames were principally derailed by accessibility challenges.
Wooden structures erected along the railway were the primary obstruction to the fight.
The Deputy Ashanti Regional Security Coordinator, Alhaji Alhassan Tapsoba, addressing the media as the fire spread said, “Had there been a way through, they would have finished their work within 30 minutes…There is water in the tenders but getting to where the fire is our problem right now.”
After containing the flames late on Friday night, it was extinguished on Sunday.
Path
In response to this, the Minister announced on Sunday plans to create a path for free access by vehicles in the unaffected area.
“This initiative aims to enhance accessibility and minimise the prevalent fire incidents caused by human activities,” he said in a statement.
This did not go down well with some traders who will have to be evacuated to make way for the project.
