Nana Apinkra Updates Kotoko Players On His Health Condition After Defeat to Heart of Lions

The Chairman of Asante Kotoko’s Interim Management Committee (IMC), Nana Apinkra Akwasi Awua has updated the team of his health situation after they returned from the Volta Region.

Kumasi Asante Kotoko lost to Heart of Lions at the Lion’s Den in Week 21, which also brought their total losses of the season to four in the 2025-26 season.

The defending champions of the MTN FA Cup, Kumasi Asante Kotoko, will test their mettle in defending the trophy against bitterest rival Aduana Stars at the Round of 16 on Sunday 8th of February, 2026 at Baba Yara Sports Stadium.

Kumasi Asante Kotoko was involved in a training friendly at Adako Jachie against Adom FC last Thursday, with the results ending in a 2:1 victory, with goals from Kwame Poku being an equaliser and a lead goal after they had conceded.

The players, together with the technical team, had to listen to the Chairman of the club at the end of last Thursday’s training session since he was not a familiar individual at the training complex.

Nana Apinkra Akwasi Awua notified the squad his health state after Asante Kotoko was thrashed at Lions Den in Kpando, a result that has distanced their possibility of winning the 2025-26 Ghana Premier League.

Nana Apinkra spilt the beans, “I felt seriously sick when you returned from Kpando with that humiliating scoreline against Heart of Lions, I have not even recovered up till now, that’s why I’ve instructed Baba (Driver) to be my bodyguard at this moment.”

The occupier of Apinkra Benyade Stool Lands, Nana Apinkra Akwasi Awua, conveyed a word of caution to the playing body and technical team that they had to win their Round of 16 fixture against Aduana Stars, as well as the Week 22 clash against Accra Hearts of Oak.

“Note, if you drop to Aduana Stars in the coming week and drop to Accra Hearts of Oak the following weekend, hot issues will happen within the playing body as well as the coaching department.”
