NAIMOS Official, Thug Shot During Anti-galamsey Operation

The National Anti-Illegal Mining Operations Secretariat (NAIMOS) has reported a fatal shooting incident that characterised a routine anti-galamsey operation along the Subinkurom-Kyeremas stretch in the Dormaa Central Municipality of the Bono Region.

Armed thugs who were reportedly hiding in the bushes, opened fire on sighting the NAIMOS task force.

In an exchange of gunfire, one NAIMOS personnel sustained a gunshot injury in the thigh.

Meanwhile, one of the assailants identified as Abu Ibrahim was shot dead and pronounced dead on arrival at the St. Matthew Catholic Hospital.

The injured NAIMOS officer is currently receiving treatment at the same hospital.

“NAIMOS wishes to assure that despite the persistent attacks and disruptions, it remains committed to fighting the scourge of illegal mining and urges all stakeholders to continue with support for its operations,” it said in a statement.
