NAIMOS Invades Illegal Mining Base at Chavene

The National Anti-Illegal Mining Operations Secretariat (NAIMOS) has invaded and struck down an illegal mining base at Chavene in the Ahanta West District.

Though no one was found at the base at the time of the team’s arrival on February 12, 2026, it reportedly found two immobilised excavators concealed in a nearby bamboo plantation.

The Taskforce’s technical team are said to have assessed the machines and further immobilised them by removing their Control Boards, Oil Pumps, one Monitor and two Batteries.

It also seized one portable generator set from the site and set ablaze four multipurpose heavy-duty water pumping machines, several water hoses, one Chanfang machine, assorted personal belongings of the illegal miners and several makeshift structures.

“Further assessment revealed extensive destruction of vast arable lands and significant damage to a large bamboo plantation in the area. It was also gathered that the illegal miners’ activities have heavily polluted the Nana Aworu River, which serves as a source of potable water for inhabitants within the enclave,” it reported in a statement.

It furthered that post-raid preliminary investigations uncovered that the Chavene site was allegedly allocated to the galamseyers by a local chief for the illegal mining activities without recourse to the appropriate regulatory authorities.

NAIMOS, therefore, intends to follow through on the preliminary findings to ensure that there is a complete cessation of the unlawful mining activities.
