MPs Escape Robbery Attack On Sampa-Mankraso Highway
A convoy of Members of Parliament in the early hours of Thursday, November 25, 2021, foiled a highway robbery attack on the Sampa-Mankraso highway in the Ahafo Region.
The robbers who under the cover of darkness, held several commuters and passengers hostage and robbed their victims.
Using sophisticated weapons the robbers held their victims at gunpoint and succeeded in unleashing terror on their victims till an approaching headlight cut short their expedition.
Those headlights emanated from a convoy of three V-8 vehicles occupied by 7 members of parliament on their way to Sampa-Mankraso.
Ningo-Prampram MP, Samuel Nartey George, Ho West MP Emmanuel Kwasi Bedzrah, South Dayi MP Rockson-Nelson Dafeamekpor, Tamale North MP Alhassan Suhuyini, Kpando MP Dela Sowah, Rita Odoley Sowah, and Frederick Ahenkwah who were on their way to an official engagement, chanced on the robbery.
The sound of the engines from the powerful vehicles was not enough to dispel the robbers who opened fire on the MPs.
The security detail of the lawmakers sensing danger also returned fire.
The robbers sensing danger fled the crime scene through the bushes.
The MPs have since lodged an official complaint with the Sunyani Police Command. Starr News has however gathered they were directed to submit extract to the police command in the Ahafo Region since Mankraso is the newly created region.
Ningo-Prampram MP Sam George took to social media to offer praises to God for coming through for him and his colleagues and asked for the police to be offered all the needed support to fight the armed robbery menace especially as Christmas approaches.
He wrote on Facebook “Thankful to the Almighty for the gift of life. Last night, his deliverance from the jaws of death for myself and 6 of my Colleagues is a blessing we cannot repay. The menace of highway robberies is one we must seek to do more about.”
He added “I am glad we were used as vessels to save over 40 other citizens who had been held at gunpoint. Hopefully, the Ghana Police Service would be supported to do more to fight robbery as we enter the yuletide. Still, we move!
