Mpox Cases Rise to 19- GHS

The Ghana Health Service (GHS) has reported a sharp increase in the number of Mpox cases in parts of the country.
According to data released by the Service, the number of confirmed cases as of May 26 stood at 19. There have been 10 new cases since the last update.
Of the current number five are on admission while there hasn’t yet been any casualty.
In response to this, the respective Regional Health Directorates have promptly activated public health measures, including contact tracing, to prevent further spread of the virus.
“We take this opportunity to remind the public that Mpox is a viral disease transmitted to humans through close contact with an infected person, animal, or contaminated materials.”
Common symptoms include rash, fever, headache, muscle aches, back pain, low energy, and swollen lymph nodes.
“The Government of Ghana remains committed to safeguarding public health. Drawing on our experience in managing similar outbreaks, we will continue to implement appropriate measures to protect the health and well-being of all residents.”
The public has since been strongly advised to:
-Practice regular hand hygiene,
-Avoid close contact with individuals exhibiting symptoms such as rashes,
-Report any suspected cases to the nearest health facility immediately.
