Monday Declared Holiday
The second Monday of the year 2024 has been declared a statutory public holiday in commemoration of Constitution Day.
Constitution Day is observed on January 7 each year; however, this year, it fell on a weekend, which is why it will be observed on January 8.
In a press statement, the Ministry of Interior announced, “The general public is hereby informed that Sunday, 7th January 2024 marks Constitution Day which is a Statutory Public Holiday.”
“However, in view of the fact that 7th January 2024 falls on a Sunday, His Excellency, the President of the Republic of Ghana, has by Executive Instrument (E.I), in accordance with Section 2 of the Public Holidays and Commemorative Days Act, (Act 601) declared Monday, 8th January 2024 as an additional Public Holiday and should be observed as such throughout the country.”
This holiday commemorates the 4th republican constitutional dispensation of Ghana, which began on January 7, 1993.
It also attests to the country’s effort to maintain and sustain the 4th republic for as long as possible.
