Missing ECG Containers: Indian National Arrested After retrieving 40 Containers- Energy Minister

The Minister for Energy, John Jinapor, has revealed that 40 of the 1,350 containers that went missing while being held at the Tema Port have been retrieved by operatives of the National Security.

The forty containers were traced to a warehouse in Kpone owned by an Indian national who has since been arrested, he confirmed in an interview on Thursday.

“The information I got this morning is that already, they’ve traced about forty of them to a particular warehouse in Kpone which belongs to an Indian man,” he told 3News.

The foreign national claims the container and its contents were sold to him- a claim that is yet to be ascertained through investigation.

“The man indicates that those containers were sold to him last year and if that was so that will be subjected to investigation.”

According to the lawmaker, the containers have been seized and transported to a safe place.

Meanwhile, he said intelligence about the locations of the remaining containers is being traced to various areas in the country.

“There are also reports of some other areas they are picking intelligence. We will trace all of them, retrieve all the containers as soon as possible and put the perpetrators before the court of competence jurisdiction.”

He is bent on prosecuting all persons found culpable.

“When we start prosecuting these people let nobody say we are witch-hunting. These are properties of the state. We will take every legitimate and legal means to ensure that we retrieve them and hold all those behind this act to account.”
