Minority Demands Urgent Independent Probe Into Alleged Training Of Thugs Exposed By Kelvin Taylor

The Minority Caucus on the Parliamentary Select Committee on Defence and Interior are calling for an urgent independent probe into the alleged recruitment and training of mercenaries by government operative based at the jubilee House to cause chaos and mayhem in the Country and later blame the political opposition

The officer in charge of training the mercenaries at the seat of presidency has been identified as DCOP Asare, according to an exposé by a Ghanaian journalist based in the United States, according to Hon. James Agalga, the ranking member of the Defense and Interior Committee. Photos of trucks with a container mounted on a trailer are allegedly being used to transport a cache of weapons intended for the use of mercenaries.

He said due to the seriousness of the allegations made and coupled with the involvement of government-sponsored armed thugs in the disruption of the Ayawaso West wuogon constituency by-election, the minority demanded an urgent independent probe into the allegations made.

In response, the minister for Defence Hon. Dominic Nitiwul dismissed the allegations that the government is recruiting mercenaries or thugs to cause chaos and mayhem in the country, he urged the public to disregard and treat it as contempt as it deserves.

He said the NPP government is not interested in training thugs because they believe in democracy and rule of law.
