MFA Says Ghana Won’t Host UK Immigrants
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration says the United Kingdom (UK) authorities’ report that thousands of asylum seekers in the UK will be relocated to Ghana pending resettlement is untrue.
The UK newspapers disseminated information that the plan which is dubbed ‘Operation Dead Meat’ had the Home Office officials approach officials in Ghana and Rwanda with plans to set up processing immigration hubs.
But Ghana’s MFA said it has not “engaged with the UK on any such plan and does not intend to consider any such operation in the future”.
The ministry recalled that in September 2021 a news item emerged on Sky News UK about a possible Ghana interest in a partnership agreement with the UK to host deported or returned migrants of Third Countries from the UK, a publication MFA debunked in a tweet.
“The position of the Government has not changed and the Ministry advises that any publication that implies otherwise should be ignored”, a statement from MFA debunked.
