Mahama Receives ‘International Statesperson Award’ from World Affairs Council

President John Dramani Mahama has been awarded the highest attribute to global leadership by the World Affairs Council.

The ‘International Statesperson Award’ of the World Affairs Council of Philadelphia is the highest honor World Affairs bestows-a tribute to global leadership.

Presented periodically since 1973, it recognizes distinguished international figures and global leaders whose work advances the twin goals of peace and freedom and leaves a lasting impact on world affairs.

President John Dramani Mahama becomes the first African leader to receive the highest recognition by the World Affairs Council since the institution of the Awards in 1973.

World Affairs is where continents, cultures, and ideas connect.

President and Chief Executive Officer of World Affairs, Lauren Swartz said on Friday,March 27, 2026 at the award ceremony that throughout his distinguished career, President John Mahama has exemplified the qualities the award seeks to honor including his steadfast democratic leadership, strengthening intentional partnerships, championing peaceful transitions, fostering economic and regional prosperity and global advocacy for Africa.

President Mahama in his address intimated that his motivation for global peace and development has been fueled by the foundations of Africa’s forebears including Dr Kwame Nkrumah, Nelson Mandela, Kenneth Kaunda amongst other leaders.
