Mahama Promises to Complete Krofrom Market Under Market Enhancement Programme

President John Dramani Mahama has committed to completing and operationalising the over-decade-old stalled Krofrom Market in the Ashanti Region.
It will feature in the Market Enhancement Programme, which promises to refurbish or build 18 markets across the country.
The assurance was given during an inspection of the building on July 16, 2025, as part of his ‘Thank You’ tour in the region.
“In our campaign manifesto, we have something we call the Market Enhancement Programme, which features about 18 markets across Ghana. It includes Sunyani, Tachiman, and Mankessim markets.”
The President then instructed the Kumasi Mayor, Mr Richard Ofori Agyemang, to write to the Office of the Vice President to include the Krofrom Market in the project.
“I have directed the mayor to write to the office of the Vice President, which is in charge of the project, to include Krofrom Market. It will help our mothers and sisters who are into trading, so they move from the roadsides.”
Sod was cut for project to begin in 2008 under the late Prof John Evans Atta Mills. It has since stalled as subsequent governments have failed to give it the needed attention.
The Adwenehemaa, Nana Sarkina, who accompanied the President to the site in an engagement with the media, urged him to expedite the completion to ease pressure on road infrastructure, which has now turned into a marketplace for many.
“We plead that you come to our aid immediately now that you have inspected it.”
