Mahama Has No Preference Among NDC Aspirants; Aide Says
The Office of former President John Dramani Mahama has stated that he has no preference among aspirants vying for various national positions in the National Democratic Congress (NDC).
In a press statement, Special Aide to Mr Mahama, Joyce Bawah Mogtari said he has noted the attempt by some candidates to push a narrative, despite his previous cautions, that he does not support their candidature.
“The Office of HE John Dramani Mahama condemns a publication in a tabloid newspaper that the family of the former President is in support of one of the aspirants for National Chairman of the NDC.
“The said claim and the publication are false, and the rank and file of the party are encouraged to disregard them.”
The statement noted that the 2020 flagbearer of the NDC is determined to work with whoever the delegates choose and elect.
It, therefore, cautioned “in the strongest terms” aspirants and their campaigners who “deliberately” continue to associate his name and that of his family in their campaign.
This comes ahead of the National Congress of the party slated for December 17.
The Congress will be held at the Accra Sports Stadium under the theme, “Rallying For Victory 2024; Ghana’s Hope”.
Some 8,964 delegates are expected to cast their votes.
The delegates will vote to elect the national chairman, Vice Chairman, General Secretary, Deputy General Secretary, National Organiser, Deputy National Organiser, and National Communications Officer, among others for the party.
The NDC seeks to recapture power in the 2024 general elections.
