Mahama Fires Chief Justice Torkonoo

President John Dramani Mahama has removed from office, the suspended Chief Justice, Her Ladyship Justice Gertrude Araba Esaaba Sackey Torkonoo.

Her removal takes effect immediately, the Jubilee House said in a statement on Monday after taking delivery of the first report on three petitions against the CJ.

“President John Dramani Mahama has, in accordance with Article 146(9) of the 1992 Constitution, removed the Chief Justice, Her Ladyship Justice Gertrude Araba Esaaba Sackey Torkonoo, from office with immediate effect.”

After perusing the investigative report on the petition by one Mr Daniel Ofori, it said the Committee established misbehaviour under Article 146(1) and recommended her removal from office.

“Under Article 146(9), the President is required to act in accordance with the committee’s recommendation.”
